Time for a new weekly writer’s roundup of my works-in-progress and those ready to read!
Last Thursday, my short story “The Boy in the Jar” won the November 2016 Fantasy Writers Challenge!
I knew Boy was a good story, and I was excited to talk about it the week before last. But the high quality of many of the competing entries made its victory far from a sure thing. I was surprised and honored by the outcome, and it was a really cool way to start my December! :-)
Now, as I mentioned last week, I was dubious about my chances of having any free time to write more on my novel over the past weekend. These concerns turned out to be valid as it was indeed packed full of activity that wasn’t writing.
None of it was time wasted. My wife and I needed to get our house in order. We needed a night out with friends to see The Nutcracker. And we needed to get the house winterized, which took all day and into the evening Sunday.
These activities certainly alleviated particular problems in this author’s life too. For example, my writing study was beginning to feel like Bob Cratchit’s office at the firm of Scrooge and Marley. Now I’m nice and toasty, and we were more than ready for the first real snow and freezing temperatures of the season that came on Monday morning.
Still, it’s disappointing to miss out on a whole weekend that I could have spent working to finishing Vivian’s Last Cigarette. But I’m making an effort to get the straggling chores that remain done over the work-week so that the upcoming weekend is free for me to write through. I hopeful that will see me finish the current chapter, and begin the final one of the novel!
Alright, time for me to stop blogging and get back to writing some more fiction! Take care!
