I loved the The Goonies as a kid… and I still do! Such a downright fun film, and its opener is brilliant in how it sets up the movie and main characters in just over four minutes.
Fun Fact: Growing up I always imagined this took place on the coast of my home state of Maine, even though it fact takes place (and was filmed) in Oregon. The locations just seemed so similar!
Decades later, I met a woman who grew-up in Oregon, and she moved to Maine to eventually become my wife. She agrees with me that although they are on opposite ends of a continent, her adopted home is much like the old. It makes me smile every time. :-)
And remember… Goonies never say die!

I went from VT to Oregon, and they are quite similar. I live quite close to the locations where the movie was filmed. My little town was in the Twilight movie (which was awful – oh well) :-)

I absolutely agree. I think the Goonies is one of the most ‘1980s’ films out there.
I haven’t watched it for a long time and let me tell you, watching the opening now I think it’s really very clever.
