Flash Fiction: Alasie’s Curse

The angakkuq said,

she was cursed,

to now pad across the ice.

A bear of ivory pelt,

for the rest of her days.

But Alasie;

who hunted seal,

who swam in arctic sea,

who loved the cubs she’d born:

Called it freedom.
