Ethel walked carefully down the steps, using her umbrella as a simple crutch. She was so exhausted it was a miracle she hadn’t fallen yet. A recent wasting disease had begun to spread among magic users and this time it had struck the kingdom’s youngest prince. He was such a sweet child, caring and full of laughter, it was hard to see the rotting sores on his small hands. Ethel had done what she could for the day, but who knew if it would be enough. Nevertheless, she must remain strong, as the High Healer everyone was counting on her.
