Book Cover Concepts Featuring “A Contract in Azure and Indigo”!

a-contract-in-azure-and-indigo-01-croppedMy wife made these two wonderful mock up, wrap-around dust jacket covers for my story, A Contract in Azure and Indigo, just as if it was a hardcover novel! I think they are wonderful! She created them the other day as an example of her design work and as part of her continuing quest to find her dream job. Kim is very talented and awesome, and if you have some time I would kindly ask you to take a look at her blog and show it some love.

Contract is actually far too short to warrant a dust jacket like this if it was printed, it’s a Novelette and would be a pretty thin book all by itself. However, her goal was to show what she could do for a full length novel in need of a cover, and hey, I am considering doing a (digital) book of collected short stories with Contract in the mix! So who knows what the future might hold…

Both mock ups use stock or public domain images (details on Kim’s blog) paired with Kim’s original designs. She took the main character of Ama as her inspiration and focus, and of the two, this one is my favorite (featuring art from 1885 by Jules Breton):

I really like the second one too. The composition is very strong and the contemplative nature of the photograph matches Ama’s character well. Unfortunately, the subject’s clothing and adornments don’t match Ama’s at all, even if the “mood” of the photograph is perfect:

I’m a very fortunate man to have such a creative and supportive woman at my side. When I write of love, I know that my words are inspired and reflective of the love we share together. Thank you Kim, for everything!
