Time for a new weekly writer’s roundup of my works-in-progress and those ready to read!
I released the first chapter of Cretaceous Queen —my novelette of teenage superheroes, magic, dinosaurs, and robots— on Saturday, and it’s begun to pick-up traction! With lots of action and cliffhangers, I’m serializing it with a chapter each week until it ends in mid-December.
My weekend was largely consumed with Queen’s launch. Beyond that, I spent a lot of time researching and testing the waters of internet marketing, and getting my author social-media stuff lined up for the next two weeks. After all that work was done, I had frustratingly little time left over for creative writing.
October-November has been a downright beast with how it has thwarted my attempts to sit down and write fiction… I’ve gotten downright depressed about it. So this week I’ve gone all-out to clear my board of commitments over the long holiday weekend here in the United States. Come Friday, I’m going to pull out the old broadsword and show my WIP who the boss is!
My goal is to finish Shadow of the Black Tower so I can get it rolling into edits. I might not finish it this weekend, but I want to enter December with that story nearing completion. With that out of the way, I’m going to return to editing my novel, Vivian’s Last Cigarette… which I am so ready to do now, but not at the expense of abandoning Shadow.
I’ve got too many half-done projects already. The Unicorn Hunters novelette, the Oo-De-Lally novella… and the chapters I have for both PRINCE OF STARS and Allied Section Alpha that could see them transcend into novels. The last thing I want to do is add yet another incomplete piece to the pile.
In fact, I’m going to make it a goal for 2018 to complete those half-done pieces during my downtime between edits on Viv’s: I don’t need to start any new stuff for a while. All of these are good stories, and they are each begging me to finish them.
As part of my strategy to commit as much time as possible to writing on Shadow this week and next, instead of new flash fiction tomorrow, I’ll be sharing my short story The Boy in the Jar from last year instead. Next week, my primeval fantasy story Ounta will fill the Thursday Fiction slot. For those of you who may not have read them before, I hope you enjoy them!
Alright, time for me to stop blogging and get back to writing some more fiction! Take care!
