I tremble revealing my changes to him, but our daughter exuberantly shows off her sprouting crystals.
“Dad! We’re changing too!”
I see my husband’s saurian distress.
“It’s great! We’re gonna be a family of crystal space dragons!”
I laugh. She’s right.

Aethereal Engineer 
It could be really fun to read a story that follows a mother in a fantasy world, trying to save her family both from fantastic and domestic distress. A plot I’m not sure is popular.

You might want to check out the Netflix series “Hilda” and the comics it’s based on. Although the main character is young Hilda, her single mom has a strong role that touches on the themes you’re looking at here.
