Flash Fiction: The Cage

She’d grown feral, but was still recognizable.

He opened her cage. “I’d rather you kill me.”

He expected animalistic fury and death like she’d give any other uninfected.

Not a joyous howl.

He slumped, reunited, infection confirmed, joining his wife’s fate.
