My wife, the multi-talented and ever-awesome Kimberly, surprised me with this stylized Nazi Swastika to be used as a decorative graphic in my alternate-history WWII story, Allied Section Alpha: Raid on the Château de la Malartrie. The story is still a work in progress, but it’s coming together well.
This piece is yin to the yang of the Allied “Liberation Star” that serves as the symbol of the story’s protagonists, Allied Section Alpha, which was posted last week. The story’s antagonists, the villainous ÜberKämpfers, are a group of very nasty Nazi bad-guys… And as if regular elite Nazis weren’t bad enough, these guys have superhuman or supernatural abilities that are turning the tide of the war to favor the Axis Powers!
Kim basically took a Nazi Swastika, which was often displayed in a circle, and tightened the radius of it until the overlapping points of the Swastika pierce the circle’s lines. It’s a subtle change, but I can’t find an example that the Germans ever used a design like this historically. Therefore it retains all the ominous look of the fascist symbol, has an authentic air, and yet is a unique variant. I took one look at it, said “Wow!” and decided then and there that would now be the insignia of my fictional ÜberKämpfers.
I’ll be releasing the action-packed mission that is the Raid on the Château de la Malartrie in the months to come! But for now, have a great Thursday!
