Time for a new weekly writer’s roundup of my works-in-progress and those ready to read!
This week has been much like last; a mixed bag of staying on top of important household issues and the needs of loved ones combined with spurts of writing. Given everything that has been going on, I’m grateful for as much time to write as I have had. Adding another five thousand words of background material for Allied Section Alpha has been a good use of these bursts of availability, instead of letting them interrupt my crafting of longer prose.
Even though I’m itching to get back to work on the story of ASA itself, focusing this week on the backgrounds of the characters themselves really made the setting of the story coalesce around them. It has given me a much better stage set the story upon, and I won’t have to craft ideas and props on the fly as much as before.
I just wish I had some more fiction to share with you this week, after all of this thinking and plotting. :-/
On this upcoming weekend, however, I’m planning on turning that around as I spend a good portion of both days cranking-out a new short story! It will be five thousand words or less, and an entry for this month’s Writing Challenge on the Reddit fantasy writer’s group I enjoy. The prompt this time around is “Shiver me timbers!” So yes, lads and ladies… this month I be writin’ a fantasy pirate story!
My wife has wanted me to write a buccaneering story for a while now, and Treasure Island is a book that has always stuck with me. So it should be no surprise that I’ve got several ideas on the dock that are ready to weigh anchor. ;-) In particular, I’ve got this roguish sea-dog by the name of Hakbutt Bryne who has been banging his cutlass on the door of my imagination since early this year… I think now is the time to let him loose on the high seas of other people’s imaginations!
Although my writing has been rife with disruptions lately, this weekend will hopefully be an exception. My spouse is working both days and I’m resting a twisted foot in order to be in good shape for September’s move to a new house… So I’m going to be unfurling the sails, making some tea and turning up the Epic Pirate Music…
Alstarboard, time for me t’ stop bloggin’ and get aft t’ writin’ some more fiction! Take care!

I can’t wait to read about Hakbutt Bryne!
