Time for a new weekly writer’s roundup of my works-in-progress and those ready to read!
Just a quick update this week. I’ve devoted as much time as a can to writing a pirate tale for the Reddit writers challenge that starts tomorrow, but an interrupted Saturday has left me frustrated and with the story unfinished. It also wants to be longer than the wordcount limit at just over five thousand words as I craft the climax. However, I’ve never let a trifle like that keep me from submitting to the contest before. ;-) I’m going to try my best to finish the entry in time… I could post the first half, but it would end on a terrible cliffhanger and I want to stop that bad habit of mine in the contests! I’ve done it at least two or three times already this year.
It may be a late entry, and there is a good chance I’ll miss the contest completely. However, I’ll most certainly share it on my blog and the piece will fit nicely in the “Peasant Stories” compilation I’m building along with Out to Pasture, A Contract in Azure and Indigo and more to come. Indeed, I’m thinking that this buccaneering adventure might be a good piece to release in conjunction with International Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th! :-D Arrrr!
My frustrations all stem from external sources, not the story itself. Everything involving my new house is ramping-up with the closing going down this Friday. It’s an exciting, nervous and chaotically busy time that is made even more exhausting by my workplace being in full-audit mode while my department is missing half of its members. The experience is making me confident that I could write in the midst of a hurricane’s gale on a deck of a maddened ship… Maybe not a lot, but I could do it.
Once the new house keys are ours, the effort to clean, paint and finally move into the space over the coming weeks will begin. It will doubtlessly impact my writing in the short term, but thereafter I will have my own private space within which to write, and that will be wonderful. :-) During that time, I’ll try to keep the blog as tidy and updated as I can.
Alright, time for me to stop blogging and get back to writing some more fiction while I can! Take care!
