Time for a new weekly writer’s roundup of my works-in-progress and those ready to read!
Lots of changes going on! Last week my job ended, then a few days later my friend and boarder moved from our house to start a new chapter in a space all her own. Although the rhythm of the household is different now, it’s not a bad thing. Just different… and yet another change to adjust to. On the positive side, I used the opportunity to integrate, clean and organize my writer’s study…
…and no sooner had our boarder moved-out than I converted the empty space into a kick-ass game room!
There were plenty of interruptions as I adjusted to a new schedule, but writing progress was still made! I received complete and comprehensive feedback from my alpha readers on A Contract in Azure and Indigo Thursday and Saturday. With edits finished yesterday from that, I have a newly revised and polished draft of the novelette. Now to see if a few betas will give it a read. ;-)
Saturday also saw the release of the final chapter of my novelette, The Brynesmark. It has done very well as a serial on Aethereal Engines. I have every intent to expand the story into a full novel or series that picks up immediately after the open ending of chapter six. Simply put, I love the characters! :-) I’ve got lots of notes and ideas for their continuing adventures, and lots of questions left to answer: Will Hakbutt and Eevin get the treasure? What about that dammed Lord-Captain? (Not-a-spoiler… He’s going to cause more trouble. ;-) Where and who is Eevin’s mammy? Why did she abandon him? Where did the tattoo pick come from? And who is this Knotty Bryne guy, anyway?
I’m already looking forward to answering those questions, and opening new ones! :-D First, however, I’m going to finish other projects. I want to complete my story compilation book (The Brynesmark novelette will be in it) and self-publish it this year as a large goal. Shorter term, I am going to finish my PRINCE OF STARS novelette (another story that I could turn into a novel or series after a serial debut) and Oo-De-Lally. Allied Section Alpha also needs to completed, and I expect it to be a thin, action-packed novel before I’m done.
Projects, projects! So many projects and so few hours in a day! ;-) But it’s so exciting!
On the immediate docket for later today is getting back to my contribution for the mysterious Moderator’s Writing Challenge: A “Flipped Fairy Tale” prompt that has grown into a story I’m calling The Old Man of the Elder Trees. It’s nearing completion after causing me some headaches and having a delay caused by the events leading to last week. With a few thousand words left to go, I think it’s looking good and finishing it will be a good way to kick-start some momentum!
Depending on how quickly I can get feedback, I hope to begin releasing the revised A Contract in Azure and Indigo as a four-part weekly serial on Aethereal Engines starting March 26th or April 2nd. I’ve also got a special surprise related to The Brynesmark that will be released between now and then as well! Stay tuned!
Alright, time for me to stop blogging and get back to writing some more fiction! Take care!
