Time for a new weekly writer’s roundup of my works-in-progress and those ready to read!

Yes, Viv is a Misfits fan. And a punk rocker. ;-)

Work continues on Vivian’s Last Cigarette and I was able to approach doubling it in size this week by adding almost six-thousand more words. It’s turning into a nice coming-of-age story… with a romantic thread and fantasy twist! :-) I started on chapter six yesterday, and it sums above fourteen hundred words as of this morning. With the climax still at least a few chapters away, this one might end up a full novella of over 20,000 words.

The story treads some serious, even dark, subjects. However, the beat and rhythm between nerdy but optimistic Gronk, and Viv the pessimistic metalhead, has lead to some scenes I’ve enjoyed writing and I think hold up pretty well.

…From Chapter Two:

Page_1_27JULWIPViv and Gronk’s banter has also fueled some really needed and frequent humorous exchanges. I like writing at least a little humor into all of my works, and although Vivian’s Last Cigarette isn’t a straight-up comedy… it’s got quite a bit in it that I hope will draw a laugh or two. I think that’s critically important, because without it things could get too angsty quite quickly!

…From Chapter Four:

Page_2_27JULWIPI hope folks enjoy reading about these two teens finding common ground as much as I have enjoyed writing about them. The pair seems to be hitting a clarity of voice, even in this first draft, that really feels genuine. When I sense that touch of life in a work of mine, it’s generally a good sign that my story is on the right track. :-)

Alright, time for me to stop blogging and get back to writing some more fiction! Take care!
