I had a terrible fear of them. Then one day as a teen, it was gone.

I actually wasn’t afraid of them until my sister was bitten by one, and its venom necrotized her flesh around the bite. *shudders* Took her months to heal.

A friend of mine had that happen to him in the military with a bite on his knee. Definitely not a good scene, and it was made worse by the fact that his legs were scratched up from the long march during which he was bitten. It made detecting the bite difficult, and he wasn’t treated properly for it until it was almost too late.
