Flash Fiction: Coming of Age

He wades through flame, clothes burning, skin unharmed.

Reaching the wrecked car, his strength rips off its door and saves those within from incineration.

An awkward boy few befriended, now the man I knew he’d become.

Others cheer a hero.

I smile at my son.
