Engineer’s Log, July 23 2014: 15,150 Words.

15,150 words. That is where I am at as I wrap-up my work on The Lost Tomb of Omo for tonight. That is forty nine double spaced pages and three and a quarter chapters for those of you who are interested.

It is definitely some of my best work to date.

The last week has been tough as I have been pulling twelve hour shifts at work. It’s been frustrating as I really want to make greater progress on the story, but tonight I realized that I actually have managed to achieve quite a bit despite the challenges. That success is in the excellent revision that I have applied to what I have written so far. This is revision based off of feedback from my two awesome editors and beta readers (my wife Kim and good friend Jessica) and my own gut intuition that something isn’t right when I re-read my work. Although it might not add a great deal to my word-count, the constant refinement is producing something superior to my earlier work. So I don’t just have 15,150 words… I have 15,150 words that have also been reviewed, edited, proofread, reworked and refined five or six times by now with more revision to come!

As it stands currently, Omo is getting close to the story point where the hero steps foot into the innermost cave, as Joseph Campbell might put it. I’m really eager to tell the rest of the tale as I approach its halfway point!

Take care dear reader, and be well!
