Drawn on graph paper so that he could calculate travel times between locations like countless Dungeon Masters would do decades after his books were published, I love this glimpse into Tolkien’s creative process! He put such love and effort into detailing his world. I believe that’s why it holds up so very well over time. You’re most welcome! I thought you’d like this as I know you’re a Tolkien fan. To me, using graph paper to map imaginary worlds is old hat and practical from years and years of D&D. But in the professor’s time it is indeed very clever… I love how you can see his army background reflected in the topographic styling he uses.
