A Fool’s Trade

“You’re a fool,” the maid said.

She finished putting her in a royal gown. “Well, I will be.”

“He’s a jester!”

The princess pulled on a motley dress. “With wit and heart!”

“You’ll trade me a courtly life, for that?”

I trade a gilded cage,” she whispered.
