Herald of the Goddess

The young malik placed a thankful hand on the kneeling elephant’s head.

“The goddess is great to send you,” he said, “but you can’t help me reach the flying city.”

He gasped as trunk and ivory tusk rose in slow majesty, and alabaster wings unfurled.
