“You’re summoning demons!” he glares. “Just figments,” she says. “Mixtures of emotion and idea made real.” “What I see is witchcraft, and it is of the Devil!” “You see them as folk of your ilk usually see the world: Full of evil everywhere, except within yourself.” He shakes the scout to his senses. “Sed quid existis videre?” “Monstra!” The centurion squints. “Elephanti?” “Non ita! Horribilis, spineta lacertos!” A horn blows as the primus pilus and his legion see the Iberians charge… riding giant, spike-tailed sauropods. His mouth falls agape. “We can defeat Doc Cyborg.” “But we’re just a Ragtag Bunch of Misfits!” “You’re a Jack-of-All-Stats, he’s a Mighty Glacier. Your sister is a Fragile Speedster and I’m a Glass Cannon Squishy Wizard.” “You mean—” “We’re a troop of tropes!” “You kept that dumb +1 Sword of Obviousness?” Gerrard hefted the numeral shaped memento. “Check this out.” He threw the steel plus sign floating next to the sword. It returned like a magical, ninja star boomerang. “Huh,” Ann said. “It finally adds up.” “You sure?” Andi asked, holding GBX’s AI box. “It’s a big change from being a construction bot!” “Yes. Install me into a child model.” She walked into the body shop. “Well, they have lots of androids.” “Gynoids, please.” “A girl, GBX?” “You’re my role model.” #2WordPrompt “The Gremlin Effect started in complex technology first, then worked its way down. Computers got junked on day one.” “Bluescreen Day.” “Yep. Guns were breaking by the seventh day.” “And when did magic return?” “The ninth day. The day I cast my first spell.” They circled the Pharaoh’s daughter and the boy protecting her. His skill with a vibro-khopesh sword keeping the men at bay, she threw her royal Wadjet amulet at them. The widget unfurled into a robot cobra as assassins screamed, and the children ran.
