Flash Fiction: Herald of the Goddess

The young malik placed a thankful hand on the kneeling elephant’s head.

“The goddess is great to send you,” he said, “but it’s unlikely you’ll help me reach the flying city.”

Trunk and ivory tusk rose in slow majesty. Then he gasped.

Alabaster wings unfurled.
